Batman: Brave and Bold Alfred

The Track of the Hook, written by Bob Haney and illustrated by Neal Adams, marked a significant turning point in the evolution of Batman, one that has been referred to as a return to the character's original roots but can also be seen as an approach based on what comics writer Denny O'Neil once described as 'remembering how we thought it should have been'.

Chronologically speaking, The Track of the Hook is the most important Batman comic DC Comics had published since Detective Comics #327 in 1964, which saw editor Julius Schwartz and artist Carmine Infantino introduce a 'New Look' for the Caped Crusader. In fact, it's possible to argue that there wouldn't be another single Bat-book as significant until the publication of Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight in 1986.

This comic book is one of the most important in the evolution of Batman, probably ranking in the top five or so such comics. It's an overhaul that has had a lasting impact on the character and his storylines, making it a must-read for fans of the Caped Crusader.
